MiamiYRs Call For Extending The Trump Tax Cuts

Let's deliver for American families and small businesses.

MIAMI, FLORIDA – House Republicans have descended on Doral this week, gathering at the Trump National Doral resort for their annual policy retreat. President Trump is meeting Republican congressmembers there as they discuss their policy priorities for the year. Extending the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017 that is set to expire later this year is at the top of their agenda.

“Republicans have a chance to come together and deliver for American families and job creators,” said Miguel Granda, Secretary of the Miami Young Republicans. “The 2017 tax law has provided strong support for job creators, many of them small businesses. Now they need the certainty that would come from extending the law.”

According to Washington, D.C. reporting, the goal for Republicans to come out with a unified policy agenda for the year. Some provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are set to expire later this year if Congress fails to enact an extension. There is some concern that Democrats in Congress may try to force an increase in tax rates, particularly the 21% corporate tax rate, that were lowered by the 2017 law.

“The leaders coming here to Miami, to meet with the President and set their agenda, have a unique opportunity to deliver for President Trump’s legacy,” continued Granda. “They can literally help Make America Great Again by extending the Trump tax cuts in the months ahead.”

There are a host of provisions in the 2017 tax law, many of which have benefitted Florida small businesses. The law includes the Research & Development tax credit, full expensing for equipment or machinery, and the Child Tax Credit, among other components; it also lowered the corporate tax rate to the current 21%. Republicans in Washington, DC are negotiating how to extend it.
