Miami Young Republicans

Our next meeting of the Miami Young Republicans is Tuesday, May 22 at The Globe, which is located at 377 Alhambra Circle in Coral Gables. We begin with a happy hour and drink specials around 6:30 pm and the business of the meeting at 7:30 pm.

Our guests will include:

  • Ben Powell, the new chair of the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee
  • State Representative Ana Rivas Logan (Dist. 114)
  • Amory Bodin, candidate for state house

and a late addition, House Majority Leader and Miami-Dade Delegation Chair Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera!

Remember, our monthly meetings are always free, and always open to Republicans of all ages... so come on out, and bring a friend!

Time is running out to register to be one of our delegates to the FFYR Annual Convention, which is in West Palm Beach June 8-10. We're getting a great deal at the historic Colony Hotel, and YR clubs from around the state will be coming together to discuss opportunities to get involved and of course look at the upcoming election.

Recent FFYR event speakers have included Marco Rubio, Adam Hasner, Col. Allen West, Mike Haridopolos, Rick Scott, Jennifer Carroll, Pam Bondi, Jeff Atwater and more. Because this is the annual we'll also be voting on the statewide board, so it's important for us to get as many people to take the ride up as possible!

Details are at www.ffyr.org. If you're interested in carpooling or splitting a hotel room, email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for details.

Missed a meeting? Want to know what the club is about? Or just want to review some past highlights?

Go to our YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/miamiyrs, for clips of some of our past speakers, including a special message from former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich congratulating us on 30 years.

Hope to see you all at an event soon. Remember to watch our Facebook and Twitter channels for the latest on upcoming events!

Thanks to everyone who came out to our April general meeting. For those who missed it, you missed an opportunity to hear from Republican Jewish Coalition Florida Executive Director Marc Adler, Inner City Urban Republican Club president James Brady, State Representative Jose Felix Diaz, State Senator and Majority Whip Anitere Flores, several local campaigns, and more.

For those who did join us, we're interested in your opinion. What did you think of Angelique Euro Cafe as a meeting location? How does it compare to The Globe, where we've been meeting in the past?

The annual National Day of Prayer takes place Thursday, May 3. Locally, the event is being marked in Coral Gables from noon to 1 pm at Merrick Park at 400 Biltmore Way. (the actual park, not the mall), located directly across from Coral Gables City Hall.

The event will feature brief remarks by State Rep. Erik Fresen, local clergy, civic leaders and more. The National Day of Prayer recognition is free and open to the public. Come check out this community event!

The Carlos Gimenez for Mayor campaign is getting ready to launch its summer internship program. If you're interested in receiving information about working with this campaign, message us and we'll pass along the details of the program.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30 pm. Mark your calendars!

THIS Saturday, 4/21, the Republican Party of Florida's having a big SUPER SATURDAY voter registration drive... and while I'm sure getting Republicans registered is motivation enough, the team of 2 that hits the most houses will be rewarded with two tickets to the last Miami Heat home game of the 2012 season! Special thanks to Noel Pace and Claudia Cubillos for the donation of the tickets.

State Rep. Ana Rivas Logan will be joining for the walk and providing refreshments!

Our good friends in the Inner City Urban Republican Club are having a big garage sale fundraiser in May to benefit their organization, Do you have any clothes, DVDs, books, or other materials you are trying to clear out?
